U ovom dijalogu, vidjet ćete to začas kada se budem vratio na njega, nalazi se sasvim eksplicitno ispitivanje o tome što znači brinuti se o samom sebi, vrlo sistematično ispitivanje u dva dijela: što znači ovo „samom sebi“, što znači „brinuti se“? I zaista imamo prvu teoriju, možemo čak reći, među svim Platonovim tekstovima, jednu zaokruženu teoriju brige o sebi. Ovo se može smatrati za prvo značajno teorijsko izranjanje epimeleia heautou. […] Čini mi se da Platon, platonistički moment, a naročito tekst Alkibijad, svjedoče o jednom od ovih momenata kada se dogodila progresivna reorganizacija čitave stare tehnologije jastva koja je dakle postojala mnogo prije i Sokrata i Platona. Čini mi se da su sve ove stare tehnologije jastva bile, kod Platona, u dijalogu Alkibijad, ili negdje između Sokrata i Platona, podvrgnute jednoj temeljitoj reorganizaciji.
