Beskrajno zahtjevno sistematski je pregled Critchleyeve filozofske pozicije, od fenomenološke etike do političke teorije i političke analize. Ovo djelo je dovelo do rasprava i polemike, posebno sa slovenskim filozofom Slavojem Žižekom. Simon Critchley (1960) suvremeni je svestrani engleski filozof čiji se interesi i područja stručnosti protežu na europsku filozofiju 19. i 20. stoljeća, povijest filozofije, književnost, etiku i politiku. Doktorirao je na etici dekonstrukcije kod Emmanuela Levinasa i Jacquesa Derride. Predavao je na sveučilištima u Cardiffu i Essexu, surađivao sa sveučilištima u Frankfurtu, Parizu, Sydneyu, New Yorku, Oslu, Tilburgu. Niz godina bio je predsjednik Britanskog fenomenološkog društva, a trenutačno je glavni filozof cijenjene avangardne mreže koja djeluje pod nazivom Međunarodno nekronautičko društvo. Autor je dvadesetak djela izdanih od početka devedesetih do danas.
