Prema suvremenim prirodoznanstvenim spoznajama svemir je tri puta stariji od Zemlje, a još i danas nastaju zvijezde. Posljednjih godina astrofizika nas je puno naučila o nastanku nebeskih tijela, a autor te fascinantne spoznaje s jedne strane opisuje, a s druge strane ih propituje s gledišta ljudskoga postojanja. Polazišna točka je astrofizika, znanost koja uključuje opažanja i teorijska objašnjenja s puno matematike. Svemirski procesi, kaže autor, u puno većoj mjeri čine pozadinu za općenito razumijevanje svijeta i suvremenih prirodnih znanosti. Prostranstvo koje si teško možemo predstaviti, raznolikost i profinjena složenost, ali i bogatstvo odnosa i sveprisutna kozmička povezanost, pobuđuju čuđenje. Ipak, dinamika svemira ima i svoju drugu stranu: raspad svih stvari, što uključuje i naše vlastito postojanje pa se otud javlja snažni poziv na snalaženje. Tri dijela ove knjige čine čuđenje, zaprepaštenje i tumačenje. Autor poziva na ponovno promatranje Stvoriteljeva djela te na pisanje modernog izvještaja stvaranja. U središtu ove knjige različite su razine opažanja koje su svojstvene prirodnim znanostima i teologiji. Tako u vidokrug dolazi i stvarnost koju prirodne znanosti ne opažaju.
