Knjiga obrađuje na zanimljiv način epistemološku problematiku proučavanja književnosti, nastojeći da preko temeljnih pojmova koji se rabe kako u teoriji tako i u književnoj kritici razabere određeni raskorak između naziva uobičajenih u svagdašnjem govoru i utemeljenih naprosto na zdravom razumu te novijih značenja koji ti nazivi i pojmovi dobivaju u suvremenim književnim teorijama. Autor na taj način nastoji razjasniti gdje su temelji uobičajenih naziva, kako su izgrađeni određeni pojmovi i kakvo oni značenje dobivaju u metajezicima mnogih suvremenih teorija. Zastupa pri tome određen kritički stav prema preuzetnosti mnogih suvremenih teorija, ali dopušta i mogućnost kritičke i analitičke nadgradnje razine zdravog razuma. Zbog toga je knjiga svojevrsni pregled suvremenih književnih teorija, usredotočen na one pojmove koji su najčešće ishodište daljih razlika i različitih pristupa književnosti. Jasan i pregledan način izlaganja, upravljen isključivo prema načelnim pitanjima, neopterećen složenom terminologijom i manje važnim detaljima o razlikama među pojedinim shvaćanjima, čini tu knjigu i vrijednim uvodom u složenu problematiku suvremenog proučavanja književnosti, štoviše i drugih rubnih disciplina koje ono u novije vrijeme sve više zahvaća, pa se očekuje zanimanje studenata raznih struka i šire čitalačke publike.
