Knjigu "DER PALAST DIOKLETIANS IN SPALATO" Georg Niemann objavio je 1910. godine u Beču. Dvije godine kasnije francuzi: arhitekt Ernest Hebrard i povjesničar Jacques Zeiller tiskali su u Parizu knjigu "SPALATO LE PALAIS DE DIOKLETIEN". Ta dva djela predstavljaju do sada najtemeljitije prikaze sačuvanih dijelova i izvornog stanja Dioklecijanove palače u Splitu koncem devetnaestoga stoljeća. Kako su posljednjih godina oživjeli radovi na proučavanju, istraživanju i obnovi Dioklecijanove palače, javila se potreba da se u tim zahvatima u što većoj mjeri koriste rezultati ranijih istraživanja. Godine 1991. splitska arhitektica Mirjana Marasović prevela je Niemannovu knjigu o Dioklecijanovoj palači na hrvatski jezik u čemu su joj pomogli arheolog Branimir Gabričević i arhitektica Ana Grubić. Velika proslava rođenja grada u Palači pravi je povod da se konačno objavi prijevod Niemannove knjige na onako lijep način kako je to napravilo devetnaesto stoljeće. Crteži i rekonstrukcije arhitekta Niemanna zadivljuju preciznošću i bogatstvom detalja. Osim golemog uloženog truda u svaki arhitektonski snimak, divljenje izaziva sklad i ljepota izrađenih crteža, a treba znati da je istraživanje palače bilo na znatno nižoj razini od današnje. Danas, uz olakšanje koji donosi moderna tehnika digitalnih zapisa i diretnog prenošenja u računalo, teško da bi se izradili crteži koji toliko plijene svojom ljepotom. Za to je uz golemo arhitetonsko znanje potreban i dar vizualista. Ova knjiga je reprint originalnog austrijskog izdanja u gotovo identičnom formatu 48 x 33 cm na finom papiru koji dočarava teksturu i boju stare knjige.
