Ovaj zbornik idejni je izdanak tematskih brojeva "Književne smotre" posvećenih ključnim mjestima raspada jedinstvenog tijela ruske književnosti sovjetskog razdoblja, odnosno njezina tematskog broja iz 1977. godine "Egzil/Emigracija/Novi kontekst". Međutim, za razliku od istoimenog temata, u ovoj knjizi prilozi su razvrstani prema nešto drukčijim relacijama i značenjima. Redaktorica Jelena Pintarić suzila je izbor tekstova iz časopisa na uobičajene zborničke žanrove i grupirala ih prema sljedećim tematskim cjelinama. Prva, "Žrtve zemljopisa", posvećena je sudbinama nekih od najslavnijih autorskih imena koji su djelovali u emigraciji ili egzilu, dok je druga "Dobrovoljno progonstvo", posvećena Portugalcu Jorgeu de Seni i Mađaru Maraiju Sandoru. Potom slijedi "Skupni portret" koji prikazuje ruske emigrantice koje su ostavile traga u svjetskoj kulturi, a bavi se i Poveljom 77 u kontekstu češke disidentske književnosti. Četvrta skupina, "Novi kontekst", problematizira neke vidove postkolonijalnog, postsovjetskog, postmodernističkog i sl. pisanja, dok zaključni dio, "Iskustvo drugosti", donosi priloge Tess Galagher i Ihab Hassana.
