Gledajući ga u njegovim najvažnijim, antologijskim pjesmama, on je pjesnik titanske snage i hrabrosti za suočenje sa svim posljedicama najdubljih egzistencijalnih, socijalnih i metafizičkih pitanja. Zasigurno nije pjesnik plitkih odgovora, a sigurno jest pjesnik dubokih pitanja. I kao da se u Heronejskom lavu kristalizira cijelo njegovo pjesništvo: tajanstvena svjetlost mjesečine i čežnja za idealom slobode uronjena u kontekst antičke povijesti.
