Istrijebiti svu gamad - exterminate all the brutes - riječi su iz čuvenog romana Josepha Conrada „Srce tame“. U knjizi suvremenog švedskog književnika Svena Lindqvista te riječi nisu samo naslov, nego i nit vodilja oko koje se gradi tekst. Jer autorov boravak u Africi krajem osamdesetih godina 20. stoljeća nipošto nije rezultat avanturizma ili obične putničke znatiželje; ponijevši sa sobom preteču prijenosnog računala i velike diskete s povijesnim materijalima koje je dugo skupljao, Lindqvist istražuje zatajen, potisnut i mučan dio prošlosti moderne europske civilizacije. Rezultat je izuzetno dojmljiv hibridan tekst, u kojemu se dnevnički zapisi o onome što neposredno okružuje autora na rubovima Sahare isprepliću s prizorima iz snova, postupno sve više obilježenih onim što čita. Na temelju te lektire pak nastaje glavna pripovjedna nit Lindqvistova teksta: kronološki i logički uobličen slijed svjedočanstava koja bjelodano povezuju stavove i postupke Europljana koji su provodili imperijalističku kolonizaciju sa stavovima i postupcima institucionaliziranog rasizma koji je uspostavila Hitlerova Njemačka. Lindqvistova knjiga objavljena je na švedskom 1992., četiri godine kasnije prevedena je na engleski, međunarodna kritika prihvatila ju je kao izuzetno značajno i kvalitetno djelo, a po njoj je 2021. snimljena i zapažena dokumentarna serija.
