Lijepa, inteligentna, otvorena, Ana pred sobom ima divnu budućnost. Najbolja je studentica u svojoj generaciji na Medicinskome fakultetu u Beogradu i ponos svoga oca, generala Ratka Mladića. No jedne noći, u ožujku 1994. godine, nakon povratka s apsolventskoga putovanja iz Moskve i sa samo 23 godine, Ana uzima očev najdraži pištolj i donosi odluku koja će zauvijek obilježiti život njezine obitelji. A nešto više od godinu dana nakon obiteljske tragedije, u srpnju 1995., general Ratko Mladić počinit će najveći i najstrašniji pokolj na europskom tlu nakon Drugoga svjetskog rata, pogubivši više od osam tisuća bošnjačkih muškaraca i dječaka. Što se dogodilo u Moskvi? Je li Ana vidjela drugo lice svoga oca, koji je u njezinim očima bio junak, pošten čovjek, a u očima drugih ratni zločinac, sadist koji je ubijao ljude, uključujući djecu, žene i starce? Ispreplićući dokumentarno i fikcionalno, autorica kroz bremenit okvir povijesno-političkih zbivanja na području bivše Jugoslavije nastoji rasvijetliti jednu obiteljsku i osobnu dramu. Roman Kći Istoka nagrađen je 2013. godine dvama uglednim španjolskim književnim priznanjima: Premio Ciudad de Barcelona i Premio nacional de la Crítica, a 2014. dodijeljeno mu je i ugledno talijansko kulturno priznanje, Premio per la Cultura Mediterranea.
