In qualità di professori universitari, docenti di storia moderna e contemporanea, ci confrontiamo costantemente con una realtà che, continuamente, ci pone in contatto con studenti e colleghi di altri paesi, attraverso i programmi di mobilità all’interno e al di fuori dell’ambito europeo. Pertanto, l’opportunità di offrire agli studiosi un contributo dedicato alla storia della Dalmazia e dell’Istria durante il «lungo» Ottocento è diventata sempre più grande ed attuale. Con la versione italiana del libro, pubblicato in croato nel 2015, intendiamo quindi, per quanto possibile, venire incontro a queste esigenze e desideri. Ci auguriamo sinceramente che coloro i quali se ne avvarranno, sia storici di professione che cultori della materia, troveranno la lettura del libro interessante e utile. Confidiamo che ciò contribuirà a mantenere vivo l’interesse per la ricerca e per lo studio di questi argomenti, per molti aspetti realmente di carattere comune ed europeo.
