Pisati znači neprestano dodavati i dodato izbacivati, krojiti i skrojeno prepravljati. Učinak te neprestane igre pisanja i brisanja jest, naravno, knjiga. Ali što učiniti s odbačenim dijelovima, s izostavljenim odlomcima, s odbačenim idejama, s onim materijalom koji nije ušao u knjigu, a u kojem se, ponekad, mogu skrivati čitava nova djela? Taj materijal Ludwig Wittgenstein ubacivao u posebnu kutiju s natpisom „Listići“ - prvi fragment, kako je utvrđeno, potiče iz 1929. godine - da bi u toj kutiji, zapravo, ostao do kraja njegovog života. Na tim listićima pisao je Wittgenstein i nacrte za buduće tekstove, bilježio je ideje, ili uobličavao male, prodorne cjeline, koje se drže i same za sebe. Ali kada se papirići - kao da sastavljamo slagalicu bez unaprijed datog modela - poređaju na jedan od mogućih načina, onako, recimo, kako su ih poređali priređivači ove knjige (što znači da je moguć i drugačiji raspored), dobija se začuđujuće djelo u kojem fragment dominira, ali djelo za koje se jasno vidi da ju je pisala jedna ruka sa svim bogatstvom svojih ideja, strasti i opsesija.
