Ovako ambiciozan projekt nije još do danas posvećen ni jednom našem piscu, a niti postoji u nas proučavatelj, koji bi uspio sagledati, obuhvatiti i napisati takav kompleksan tekst sustavne povijesti jednoga pisca, njegova djela, odjeka toga djela u književnom, društvenom i političkom životu. To je ovom knjigom uspjelo Stanku Lasiću. Kao što su i prethodne njegove knjige mnogoslojne, polifono struktuirane tako i u ovoj knjizi možemo razabrati kompozicijske linije koje čine ovu knjigu. Najvažniji je sloj, dakako, interpretacija Krležina književnog opusa, za koju bez bojazni možemo reći da nadmašuje sve što je dosad o književnim tekstovima mladog Krleže rečeno. Drugi sloj vezan je za teorijsku dogradnju ontološkog strukturalizma. Knjiga je svojevrsna eksplicitna kritika cjelokupne literature o Krleži koja je dosad možda i imala neke korisne parcijalne rezultate, ali je uvijek izostajala totalnost kritičkog uvida. Treći sloj čini analiza onoga što su drugi kritičari pisali o mladom Krleži, dok je četvrti sastavljen od kompozicijskih digresija koncentriranim oko pitanja hrvatske kulturne povijesti, određenja identiteta hrvatskog književnika, odnosa ideologije i književnosti
