Školska se godina bližila kraju, a Ivan je i dalje bio u "komi" zbog loših ocjena. U stvari, najviše se bojao oca koji je često bio agresivan i razdražljiv. U prosjeku bi "pukao" jedanput mjesečno i iako mu nisu dijagnosticirali PTSP, dobro se držao što se tiče ratnih trauma. Dečki iz kvarta, zagrebačkih Gajnica, bili su jedini koji su ga potpuno razumjeli, jer su imali iste probleme sa ocjenama. Pritisnut brigama, Ivan se odlučio na bijeg od kuće, ali umjesto na priželjkivano more završio je u vlaku za Vinkovce, gdje je inače kod bake i djeda znao provoditi ljetne praznike. Tako je zapravo započela napeta i uzbudljiva avantura našega mladoga bjegunca . . . Na kraju knjige nalazi se nekoliko kratkih dodataka za sve klince koje starci "ubijaju u pojam" i koji bi se poput Ivana odlučili na odlazak od kuće. Napisani su na djeci primjeren, blizak način sa nenametljivom poukom. Roman je nagrađen nagradom "Mato Lovrak".
