„Na rubu pameti“ Krležin je roman objavljen prvi put u Zagrebu 1938. godine, a na novo se izdanje čekalo punih šesnaest godina - do ponovne normalizacije odnosa tadašnje Jugoslavije i Sovjetskog Saveza. Naime, ovaj je roman umnogome obojen politikom i kritikom zlokobnih društvenih pojava u međuraću, koje su kulminirale u Drugome svjetskom ratu. Ubojstva „malih“ ljudi, malograđanština i borba intelektualaca s moćnicima koji su bogatstvo i ugled u društvu stekli na neprimjeren način provlače se kroz svih dvanaest poglavlja ovoga uzbudljivog romana, no te su teme, nažalost, aktualne i danas. Ovaj je Krležin roman jedini s pripovjedačem u prvom licu jednine, a protagonist je pobunjenik u društvu „cilindraša“ - doktor prava koji vrlo dobro poznaje građansko zagrebačko društvo - koji kritizira ubojstva četiriju oso-ba što ih je počinio jedan gospodarski moćnik, a koji se tim činom hvalio na jednoj večeri. Moralna osuda takva čina usmjerit će privatni život i karijeru glavnog junaka na rub društva i rub pameti. Pogovor ovom izdanju napisao je akademik Pavao Pavličić.
