Prozaik, pjesnik, dramaturg i scenarist Sejjid Mehdi Šodžai (Sayed Mehdi Shojaei) jedan je od najčitanijih suvremenih iranskih pisaca. Rođen 1960. u Teheranu, osnovno i srednje obrazovanje stekao je u rodnome gradu, gdje je diplomirao dramaturgiju i političke znanosti, a nakon završenog studija počeo objavljivati književne tekstove za odrasle i djecu. Jednostavan jezik, koji čitatelja vodi kroz složenu igru ponekad začudnih, ali uvijek kristalno jasnih slika i slojeva značenja, baš kao i smionost kojom se autor dohvaća društvenih, religioznih i političkih aspekata života u suvremenom Iranu, najbolje govore o razlozima iznimne Šodžaijeve čitanosti i popularnosti.
