Na samom se početku knjige daje pregled psihopatologije i neuro-bioloških osnova poremećaja raspoloženja, što čini temelj razumijevanja ove raznolike dijagnostičke skupine. Zatim se opisuju psihološke osnove poremećaja raspoloženja, što daje dodatnu vrijednost ovoj knjizi. Knjiga također prikazuje i socijalne te javnozdravstvene čimbenike poremećaja, što u konačnici naglašava cjeloviti, bio-psiho-socijalni model razumijevanja psihičkih poremećaja. Važan dio knjige su diferencijalna dijagnoza, psihodijagnostika i specifični faktori suicidalnosti te poremećaja spavanja kod poremećaja raspoloženja. U knjizi se obrađuje i problematika poremećaja raspoloženja u specifičnim skupinama kao što su starije osobe, tjelesni bolesnici i ženska populacija. Heterogeni pristup problemu poremećaja raspoloženja daje posebnu vrijednost ovoj knjizi. Važno je istaknuti i značajan znanstveni opus tima prof. dr. Dalibora Karlovića, posebno u području biologijske psihijatrije, a koji je prikazan u više poglavlja knjige te upućuje na put kojim treba ići u psihijatrijskoj struci. Želim naglasiti kako je knjiga “Poremećaji raspoloženja” pisana vrlo stručno, uz pregled novije literature, ali su također prisutni i literaturni navodi radova i knjiga ranijih datuma. Navedeno, u konačnici, čitateljima daje širi pristup razumijevanju ovog iznimno bitnog psihopatološkog fenomena jer fenomen poremećaja raspoloženja ima i evolucijsku te antropološku komponentu. S obzirom na značajnu učestalost problematike poremećaja raspoloženja u zapadnoj civilizaciji, ova knjiga daje nova znanja i iskustva korisna za svakodnevnu kliničku praksu u području mentalnog zdravlja.
