Majstor kipar, profesor i akademik Antun Augustinčić (Klanjec, 4. 5. 1900. - Zagreb, 10. 5. 1979.) autor je brojnih spomenika postavljenih širom svijeta, od kojih su neki predstavljeni u stalnom postavu njegove Galerije u Klanjcu. Iako su muzeološki kriteriji i prostorne mogućnosti uvjetovali izlaganje samo dijela Augustinčićeva spomeničkog opusa, izloženi izbor predstavlja referentnu točku europskog i svjetskog kiparstva XX. stoljeća. Spomenici su specifičan segment kiparstva koji u muzeološkoj interpretaciji zahtijeva kontekstualizaciju. U njima se, više nego u portretnoj ili intimnoj plastici, isprepliću povijesne, kulturološke i političke odrednice bez znanja kojih nije moguće spoznati značajke nekog spomenika. Priče o nastanku i sudbini Augustinčićevih spomenika čije su skice i modeli postavljeni u trećoj dvorani i, dijelom, u parku skulptura klanječke Galerije, plod su dugogodišnjeg istraživanja; objavljujemo ih u želji da posjetiteljima približimo taj dio muzejskog postava, obogatimo njihov likovni doživljaj i ukažemo na vrijednost fundusa Galerije u Klanjcu.
