About the Book

Gustave Guillaume (1883-1960) započeo je životni put kao poštanski činovnik, da bi nakon dugogodišnjeg studija od 1938. do smrti bio profesor lingvistike na Sorbonnei. Mentalist, svojim je danas znamenitim knjigama Problem člana i njegovo rješenje u francuskom jeziku (1917) te Vrijeme i glagol (1929) postao “tajnim kraljem”, jednim od preteča suvremenog jezikoslovlja. U ovoj knjizi, reprezentativnom izboru iz Guillaumeove rukopisne ostavštine, slijed izlaganja ravna se postupnim razvijanjem osnovne misli utemeljitelja psihosistematike, a ona se svodi na postulat o komplementarnosti čovjekove mentalne strukture (materinskog) jezika. Oblikovanje jezičnih pojava svodi se na tzv. binarni tenzor, tj. na proces partikularizacije univerzalnih iskustava te ponovne, jezikom posredovane univerzalizacije.
