About the Book

Julije Knifer (Osijek, 23. IV. 1924 — Pariz, 7. XII. 2004), jedan je od najznačajnijih hrvatskih umjetnika 20.st. Studirao je slikarstvo početkom 50-ih godina na zagrebačkoj Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti, da bi potkraj istog desetljeća bio jedan od osnivača i istaknuti član grupe Gorgona, koja je u Zagrebu djelovala od 1959. do 1966. Godine 1961. sudjeluje na prvoj izložbi »Novih tendencija« u Zagrebu kao pripadnik toga pokreta, a 1973. sudjeluje na bijenalu u Sao Paulu te 1976. na Venecijanskom bijenalu zajedno s kiparom Ivanom Kožarićem. Dobitnik je Nagrade »Aurélie Nemours« 2000. i Nagrade »Vladimir Nazor« za životno djelo 2003. Već 1961. piše Igor Zidić prvi tekst o Kniferovim Meandrima (Razlog, br. 4), nakon kojih su uslijedili i mnogi drugi tekstovi, kao i nove upriličene izložbe.
