Sveučilište u Zadru objavilo je krajem 2013. novu „otočnu“ znanstvenu monografiju. To je knjiga Veli Rat o istoimenom mjestu na Dugom otoku koja na multidisciplinaran način obrađuje spomenuto ali i susjedna dugootočka mjesta koja se ističu svojim geografskim položajem na krajnjem sjeverozapadnom dijelu Dugog otoka, odnosno uz Maknare, dio Sedmovraća, koji stoljećima funkcionira kao ključna poveznica između zadarskog akvatorija i sjeverozapadnoga dijela Jadrana. Zahvaljujući povoljnom geografskom položaju, velikoj horizontalnoj i vertikalnoj raščlanjenosti obalnoga krškog reljefa i bogatom živom svijetu otoka i pripadajućega mora čovjek je još od paleolitika nastanjivao, a od neolitika i postupno intenzivnije vrednovao taj prostor. Raznolika kulturna baština zoran je pokazatelj suodnosa čovjeka i prirode koji je u Velom Ratu pridonio oblikovanju dinamične otočne zajednice i specifičnoga kulturnog krajolika. U monografiji su razmotreni brojni relevantni prirodoslovni, humanistički i društveni aspekti razvitka Velog Rata koji bi mogli pridonijeti osmišljavanju budućega prostornog uređenja te razmjerno male, ali u regionalnom i nacionalnom pogledu značajne otočne cjeline. U izradi ove knjige sudjelovalo je trideset i osam autora iz petnaest znanstvenih, kulturnih i crkvenih ustanova iz Zadra, Zagreba, Šibenika i Murtera. Na temelju istraživanja prigodom kojih su mnogo pomogli stanovnici Velog Rata, Polja i Verone, priredili su ukupno trideset i četiri poglavlja na 822 stranice teksta s brojnim slikovnim i tabličnim prilozima. Knjigu su uredili Ante Uglešić i Josip Faričić.
