Konac svojih dvadesetih dočekao je u Zboru narodne garde gdje se nije istaknuo nikakvim junačkim akcijama. Po povratku s bojišta, nakon nekoliko godina izbjegavanja posla i obaveza, Crni se priključuje zaštitarskoj firmi Mustela gdje je angažiran u neobičnu svrhu: bit će tjelohranitelj dobro štićene djevojke, prelijepe i fatalne Izabel. Ono što slijedi je nekoliko hladnih, pretežito snježnih mjeseci zebnje i mekih dodira obavijenih dimom cigarete. Novi roman kultnog Gorana Tribusona, Zbogom, Izabel, podnaslovljen kao roman noir, pričao je o poslijeratnoj pretvorbi i zagrebačkom Humphreyju Bogartu, naoružanom Smith & Wessonom i prezirom društvenih konvencija.
