Kreativnost u umjetnosti i znanosti tema je koja intenzivno zaokuplja čovječanstvo, ali ostaje neuhvatljiva za precizno definiranje. David Edwards, prof. biomedicinskog inžinjeringa na Harvardu, upustio se u svojoj knjizi Znanoumjetnost: Kreativnost Post-google generacije u interpretaciju katalizatora inovacije u znanosti i umjetnosti upravo kroz naglašavanje interdisciplinarnog pristupa. Autor je iskovao termin "znanoumjetnost" kako bi definirao pojavu kad znanost pokreće na isti način kao umjetnost ili kad umjetnost utječe na tehnološki napredak. Iako je termin zvučan, iza njega ne stoji sasvim nova interpretacija, već Edwards kroz konkretne primjere pojedinaca koji su uspjeli u ovakvom prijenosu ideja iz umjetnosti u znanost i obratno, pokušava prikazati procese koje su te osobe prošle kako bi ostvarile utjecaj u jednom od četiri područja djelovanja: kulturne institucije, obrazovanje/znanost, humanitarni rad i industrija. Znanoumjetnost na inovativan način predstavlja novu percepciju, načine i daljnji razvoj suradnje suvremene znanosti i umjetnosti, te isprepletenosti i nužnosti sagledavanja oba područja, na način prihvatljiv i razumljiv ne samo znanstvenicima i umjetnicima, već i zainteresiranima iz privatnog i javnog sektora - iz područja obrazovanja, gospodarstva, industrije, kulture.
