TRANSPARENT BEAUTY: glass from croatian museums from the 15 th to the 20 th century

Subject: The "Transparent Beauty" exhibition is organized to mark the entry of the Republic of Croatia into the European Union. Almost all Croatian museums are participants in this, extremely big project, and the main organizers are the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, the Mimara Museum and the Museum of Arts and Crafts, which is also where the exhibition will take place. The aim of the exhibition is to present the beauty of glass and different glass objects kept in the collections of Croatian museums. The visitors will be able to enter all three museums with a single ticket, thereby covering glass production from prehistory to the present day. Periods from the 2nd millennium BC to the 14th ct. will be presented in the Archaeological Museum, those from the 15th to the 19th ct. in the Museum of Arts and Crafts, and contemporary art will be displayed in the Mimara Museum. In the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, visitors will see 180 objects from sixteen museums from different parts of Croatia, and will do so through four chronological units. The first one will include ancient times, the second one classical antiquity, the third one the Middle Ages, and the last one will include Islamic art. Most objects originate from Croatia, but some found their way to our museums from Italy, Serbia, and even Greece, Egypt and Syria. Apart from everything else, the visitors will be able to see the oldest glass find from Croatia, glass jewelry, different types of vessels, jugs, bottles, beakers and urns, as well as goblets and mosque lamps.
