Ob praznovanju 100-letnice Univerze v Ljubljani je Slovenska matica v sodelovanju z Oddelkom za filozofijo Filozofske fakultete in s Teološko fakulteto pripravila simpozij, ki je bil posvečen filozofinji Almi Sodnik. Bila je dolgoletna predavateljica zgodovine filozofije na Univerzi v Ljubljani in tudi prva ženska, ki je zasedla mesto dekanje katerekoli fakultete na Slovenskem. Študirala je v Ljubljani in na Dunaju, izpopolnjevala pa se je še v Rimu, Milanu, Parizu, na Dunaju in v Gradcu. Od 1946 je bila izredna profesorica, od 1951 do upokojitve 1959. leta pa redna profesorica na Oddelku za filozofijo današnje Filozofske fakultete Univerze v Ljubljani. Med letoma 1952 in 1953 je opravljala dekansko funkcijo. Alma Sodnik je bila prva, ki je na Slovenskem podrobno raziskovala zgodovinski razvoj filozofskih problemov od začetka antike do vključno Kanta in pripravila vrsto monografskih prikazov posameznih filozofov (med drugimi zlasti Descartesa). Ustvarila je metodološko osnovo za sistematični prikaz zgodovine filozofije pri Slovencih, bodisi po filozofskih avtorjih bodisi po filozofski problematiki.
