Godina je 1913. Bivši vojnik Leon Courtney postaje profesionalni lovac u britanskoj istočnoj Africi. On prati imućne i moćne Amerikance i Europljane na safarije diljem područja plemana Masai u potrazi za velikom lovinom. Tijekom svoje vojne i lovačke karijere Leon razvija iznimno prisan i povezan odnos s Masaijima. Jedan je od Leonovih klijenata i grof Otto Von Meerbach, njemački industrijalac čija tvrtka izrađuje zrakoplove i vozila za carevu rastuću vojnu silu. Uskoro Leona unovačuje njegov ujak Penrod Ballantyne, koji je zapovjednik britanskih snaga u istočnoj Africi - zadatak mu je prikupiti informacije od Von Meerbacha. No, Leon se mimo svojeg zadatka beznadno zaljubljuje u Von Meerbachovu prelijepu i tajnovitu ljubovcu, Evu Von Wellberg. U sam osvit Prvog svjetskog rata, Leon otkriva zavjerenički naum grofa Von Meerbacha o podizanju bune preživjelih i razočaranih sudionika Burskog rata protiv britanskih snaga u južnoj Africi. Prepušten samome sebi, on mora osujetiti Von Meerbachov nacrt. Eva Von Welberg vraća se sa svojim gospodarom u Afriku, a Leon otkriva tko je i što zapravo je iza maske koju nosi...
