Namjena ovoga priručnika nije da bude referentna knjiga za područje dijagnostičkih pretraga, već da posluži kao pregledno pomoćno sredstvo za većinu dijagnostičkih pretraga s kojima se susrećemo u svojemu radu. Predstavlja pomoć u traženju odgovora na brojna pitanja o tijeku određenih pretraga na koje u našoj svakodnevnoj praksi upućujemo bolesnike. Gradivo je namijenjeno studentima dodiplomskoga studija Medicinskoga fakulteta u Mariboru i Ljubljani, liječnicima sekundarcima, specijalizantima obiteljske medicine, liječnicima obiteljske medicine i svima ostalima koji žele određenu pretragu približiti svojim bolesnicima. I ne na kraju, i laici će u priručniku naći korisne informacije o dijagnostičkim pretragama koje ih zanimaju. Na priloženome kompaktnome disku se za sve pretrage, koje su spomenute u ovome priručniku, nalaze upute za bolesnike. Praktična namjena toga kompaktnog diska ogleda se prije svega u primjeni u samoj ordinaciji obiteljske medicine, tj. u mogućnosti izravnoga otiskivanja i brze pripreme odgovarajućih uputa za bolesnika kod njegova upućivanja na pretragu.
