Zapovjednik konvoja je mladi komandant Dejev, veteran Građanskog rata, a ekspediciju nadgleda stroga komesarka Bijela. Putovanje koje će trajati šest sedmica pretvorit će se u pravu avanturu. Protagonisti će se na putu susresti s mnogim preprekama, od danonoćnog traganja za hranom i medicinskim potrepštinama, pa do smrti koja nemilosrdno uzima najslabije. Autorica i u ovom romanu pripovijeda o snažnoj volji za životom, hrabrosti i žrtvi koju smo spremni podnijeti čak i za one koje ne poznajemo dugo. Put dug hiljade kilometara promijenit će živote svih putnika, a Ešalon za Samarkand, koji obiluje potresnim i dirljivim, ali i duhovitim scenama, zasigurno će dirnuti srca čitalaca. Guzelj Jahina još jednom je dokazala da je vrhunska pripovjedačica.
