Novembra 2016 je minilo 250 let od smrti enega najznamenitejših vojskovodij v Habsburški monarhiji - feldmaršala Josefa grofa Radetzkega (1766-1858). Veliki zmagovalec bitk pri Custozi (1848) in Novari (1849) je bil pojem zmagovitega poveljnika in njegov lik je prerasel v legendo. Njegovo ime danes povezujemo v največji meri zgolj z avstrijsko zgodovino in z znamenito Radetzkyjevo koračnico, manj znano pa je, da je bil tesno povezan tudi s slovensko zgodovino. Sorodstvene vezi so ga pripeljale na Kranjsko, kjer je bil lastnik dveh grajskih stavb (dvorca Neuhaus v Tržiču in gradu Podturn/Tivoli v Ljubljani), v Ljubljani je imel celo dva javna spomenika, pa tudi sicer je bil vse do leta 1918 močno zasidran v slovenskem kolektivnem spominu, zlasti med vojaštvom. Monografija »Felmdaršal Radetzky in Slovenci« tako v 9 prispevkih različnih avtorjev predstavlja raznovrstne vezi med Radetzkim in slovenskim prostorom nekoč in danes, njegovo kariero, družino pa tudi recepcijo Radetzkyjeve koračnice v slovenski zgodovini.
