Giovanni Della Casa (1503. - 1556.), talijanski književnik i crkveni dostojanstvenik, ponajviše je zapamćen kao autor Galatea, traktata o pristojnom ponašanju, svojevrsne zbirke savjeta i pravila za sva vremena. Iako je riječ o praktičnom priručniku etikete i morala pisanom bez književnih pretenzija, u okvirima svjetovnog interesa, zamjetna je autorova prosvijećenost, oštroumlje i »nepodnošljiva lakoća« izražavanja. Zavidno je njegovo vladanje jezikom te istančano razumijevanje stvari i ljudi, premda se u ovom svom »renesansnom bontonu« bavi običnim temama kao što su uljuđeni razgovori, pravila odijevanja ili ponašanje za stolom. Pisac zagovara uglađeno ophođenje i posvemašnju korektnost prema drugima te poštivanje uvriježenih životnih pravila i temeljnih vrijednosti društva. Knjiga je odmah po izlasku postala bestseler i ostala je rado čitanom i prevođenom (ovo izdanje je potvrda) već gotovo šest stoljeća, a skladan tijek misli, kao i blagost pristupa, nisu prošli nezapaženo ni kod vrhunskih prosuditelja. Tako je Giacomo Leopardi stavljao Della Casu uz bok Machiavelliju kao majstora talijanskoga proznog stila, napisavši da je njegov tekst »jedna od najelegantnijih i najklasičnijih proza šesnaestog stoljeća
