Cijenimo ih zbog ljekovitih i ekstatičnih svojstava, i uživamo u njihovu sočnom okusu. Oduvijek nas zadivljuje njihov naoko čudesan izgled. No uistinu smo nevjerojatni kad želimo naći najbiranije vrste ili kad želimo naučiti kako da uzgojimo onih nekoliko vrsta koje to uopće dopuštaju. Gljive nisu tek hrana, pa tako ni ovo nije tek obična kuharica. Autori knjige Gljive dvojica su zaljubljenika u gljive, koji se svake jeseni silno uznemire od iščekivanja. Ovom knjigom čitatelju nastoje prenijeti samu bit svog uzbuđenja i strasti. Sve je tu, od podataka o iznimnoj važnosti gljiva u povijesti i folkloru do životopisnih opisa uzbudljivih traganja za gljivama. No, budući da su gljive ponajprije namijenjene jelu, srce ove knjige čini njezinih sedamdesetak izvanrednih recepata.
