Radnja romana Grad Bohane smještena je u zapadnu Irsku 2053. godine. U svijetu rudimentarne tehnologije i još rudimentarnijih zakona, zavađene bande bore se za prevlast u gradu. Javni prijevoz odvija se tramvajima, ali automobila nema. Likovi ne telefoniraju, nego pišu pisma, a glazba se sluša preko radija s ručicom. Likovi se odijevaju drečavo i razgovaraju izmišljenim dijalektom. Na čelu kriminalne obitelji koja kontrolira veći dio teritorija je Logan Hart nett, čovjek pod velikim utjecajem svoje 90-godišnje majke Girly. Kad jednog člana konkurentske obitelji Cusackovih proparaju nožem, izbije spor. Sukob se pretvara u sveopći rat za vlast nad gradom. Autor taj svijet opisuje kao svijet poremećene zloće, maštariju kako bi tinejdžerski hipsteri laki na oružju mogli zvučati za 40 godina. Napisan je u tehnikoloru, objasnio je. Roman je zamišljen kao dobra zabava iz niskih pobuda, ali i ozbiljan jezični eksperiment. U Irskoj 2053. kako je vidi Kevin Barry možda ne biste nužno željeli živjeti, ali ćete zasigurno s užitkom o njoj čitati, navodi se u ocjeni stručnog žirija ugledne međunarodne nagrade International Dublin Literary Award kojom je Grad Bohane ovjenčan 2013. nakon što je prethodne godine dobio Nagradu Europske unije za književnost.
