Predstavljanje Zaher-Mazoha.Knjigu o Sacher-Masochu Deleuze objavljuje 1967. godine. Godina je važna. U to vrijeme Freud je jedan od „obaveznih“ autora francuske teorijske scene, a njegovo otkriće „nesvjesnog“ jedno od najubotijih uporišta u razgradnji suverenog subjekta. Pisati protiv Freuda u to vrijeme ne samo da nije bila raširena praksa nego i poduhvat koji bi, u najmanju ruku, naišao na otpor. Deleuze, međutim, radi upravo to. On ne negira Freudove genijalne uvide (naprotiv), već se silovito obrušava na Freudov sado-mazohistički kompleks. Knjiga o Sacher-Masochu zapravo je knjiga o Freudu. Deleuze primjećuje da je spoj sadizma i mazohizma, onako kako ga vidi Freud, u mnogo čemu problematičan. Stoga, Deleuze kreće u iščitavanje djela ponešto zaboravljenog Sacher-Masocha te snažno dovodi u pitanje bliskost sadizma i mazohizma. Istovremeno, u virtuoznim analizama Freudovih djela, vidljivo je sjeme velikih Deleuzeovih ideja koje će on s neusporedivom snagom i lucidnošću razvijati u svojim velikim knjigama Razlika i ponavljanje, Logika smisla i, kasnije, Anti-Edipu i Hiljadu ravni.
