Epski roman Húrinova djeca zaokružuje jednu od Tolkienovih "velikih priča" iz Starih dana. Nekoliko tisuća godina prije događaja iz Gospodara prstenova, vilenjaci i ljudi brane svoja kraljevstva od zlog boga Morgotha i njegovih horda sa sjevera. Nakon Bitke nebrojenih suza, ljudski vladar Húrin je zarobljen. On se ruga Morgothu, a mračni bog baca kletvu na njegovo potomstvo, da ih do kraja života prati nesreća, i još smješta nesretnog vladara na vrh planine da sve to promatra. Mladi Húrinov sin Túrin ide u šumsko kraljevstvo vilenjaka Thingola, koji ga posvaja. Ali kad nehotice skrivi jednu smrt, Túrin odlazi u progonstvo i staje na čelo odmetničke družine, ne znajući da je dobio sestru Niënor. Dok se po vilinskim i ljudskim krajevima širi glas o njegovu junaštvu, i dok protiv njega spletkari strašni zmaj Glaurung, Túrin srlja u propast... Tolkien je izvornu priču napisao još prije 1920., a onda ju je pedeset godina prerađivao i širio. Nakon Tolkienove smrti, njegov je sin Christopher uređivao očeve rukopise dok nije dobio cjelovit roman, koji je objavio 2007. godine.
