U ovom ozbiljnom znanstvenom, ali pristupačnom djelu Andrea Feldman spašava od nezasluženog zaborava malo poznat svijet hrvatskih liberala sredine 19. stoljeća, njihove snove osuđene na propast - i fascinantan, ambivalentan i na neki način tragičan lik samog Tkalca - čovjeka koji je svoj dug život posvetio potrazi za izgubljenom idejom." Marcus Tanner, urednik Balkan Insight, bivši je dopisnik novina The Independent s Balkana Andrea Feldman magistrirala je i doktorirala povijest na Sveučilištu Yale (New Haven, CT, SAD). Autorica je i urednica nekoliko knjiga, između ostalih "Žene u Hrvatskoj: Ženska i kulturna povijest", (Zagreb, Ženska infoteka i Institut Vlado Gotovac, 2004) i "Povijesno gledamo : Razgovori s povjesničarima" (Zagreb: Izdanja Antibarbarus, 2007). Predavala je na sveučilištima u Bosni i Hercegovini, Kanadi, Velikoj Britaniji i SAD. Radila jer kao savjetnica ministra vanjskih poslova RH (2002-2004) i bila je izvršna direktorica Instituta Otvoreno društvo - Hrvatska (2004-2006). Danas predaje povijest na Učiteljskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.
