Zbirka Jedne noći u prosincu sastoji se od pet kratkih priča izgrađenih oko događaja naoko smještenih u prostor zbilje, no u njihovu se razvoju protagonist suočava s neobjašnjivim, iracionalnim, jezivim i mističnim pojavama ili zbivanjima, što svijetu poznatoga daje dimenziju o kojoj čovjek najčešće ne želi razmišljati. Tako potencijalni kupac u prvoj priči (Oglas) slijedi informacije vrlo povoljnoga oglasa za prodaju polovnoga automobila što ga odvodi do mračne kuće na zabačenomu imanju. U drugoj priči (Jedne noći u prosincu) neuobičajene okolnosti smrti mlade djevojke u mirnom će slavonskome selu pokrenuti borbu nekolicine mještana s nečim za što su vjerovali da postoji samo u narodnoj predaji. Treća priča (Veronikin prijevoj) prati lik pisca koji tražeći građu za novi roman istražuje jedan već zaboravljeni i zataškani slučaj iz prošlosti: strašnu smrt osmero ljudi u nerazjašnjenim okolnostima. U četvrtoj priči (Aurora Crescente) mirna i tiha noć na moru nakon sudara jedrilice i luksuzne jahte pretvara se u jezivu avanturu. Protagonist završne priče (Iza ponoći) nakon prijevremenoga odlaska sa zabave u snježnoj oluji doživljava neobičan susret i utrkujući se s vremenom pokušava spasiti život nepoznatoj djevojci.
