Ko se komaj polnoletna Irena preseli na drugi konec Slovenije, se pred njo kaže lepa prihodnost. Družina, kamor se je preselila, potrebuje pridne roke za delo na kmetiji, a to je ne skrbi, da je le ob svojem ljubljenem možu, Ignacu. Kmalu po rojstvu prvorojenke Lučke pa se začno kazati prve razpoke v zakonu; Ignac večere preživlja po svoje in kljub pričakovanju drugega otroka ga Ireni ne uspe zadržati doma. Pretkanost druge ženske, s katero se zaplete, pa tudi njegova trenutna zaslepljenost z njo, ga pripravi do tega, da ženo odslovi in zahteva ločitev. Kljub bolečini razdrtega zakona se pred Ireno začno kazati obrisi lepše prihodnosti, ki pa jo prekine poziv bivšega moža, ki ji želi odvzeti dvoletnega Lovra. Med zakoncema se začne krut boj za dečka. Leta, ki sledijo, so nepredvidljiva laži, brezbrižnost bližnjih in izguba službe Ireno pripeljejo do tega, da počasi izgubi vse, kar bi ji omogočalo normalno preživetje, in naposled pristane na ulici. Ji bo uspelo zaživeti na novo?
