Spoznaja da je pojam i predodžba djeteta u pripovjednim djelima dječje književnosti ne nešto fiksno i zauvijek zadano već da je to promjenljiva kategorija koja stalno iznova zadobiva značenja, ne samo u povijesnoj i društvenoj dimenziji, već i u ovisnosti od stavova i vizija pojedinih autora, ključna je za razumijevanje dječje književnosti. Upravo ta spoznaja o dječjem liku u dječjem romanu koji se nužno i neprestano puni društveno i povijesno uvjetovanim predodžbama djetinjstva temeljna je aksiomatska postavka Zimine knjige. Zima ne uzima dvojstvo apolonsko-dionizijsko kao krutu opoziciju koju bi onda provela kroz povijesnu građu hrvatskog dječjeg romana našavši u njoj čvrsti kriterij koji bi omogućio jednostavne usporedbe temeljene na tom „pojmovnom novcu”. Naprotiv, Zima traži povijesne oblike „apolonskog” i „dionizijskog”. Ti oblici su, dakle, promjenljivi i odgovaraju na društveni i povijesni kontekst razumijevanja djetinjstva. U tako dinamički oslikanom životu oblika te dvije suprotnosti ne zadr- žavaju okamenjenu ekvidistancu već se i same približuju i udaljuju gurajući ponekad jedan oblik u prvi plan a ponekad drugi.
