Francuska početkom 20. stoljeća. Stari nadničar Amédée u seoskoj krčmi upozna mladića Albina, beznadno zaljubljena u Angèle o kojoj ništa ne zna već tri godine. Nju je pak zaveo Louis, probisvijet iz Marseillea, koji ju je iskoristio i podvodio. Obeščašćena, Angèle se vratila u rodno selo, gdje je zajedno s desetomjesečnim sinom zatočenom drži otac, kako bi obitelj zaštitio od sramote i ogovaranja. Amédée pomaže Albinu doznati istinu i pronaći djevojku, izlažući se pogibelji i bijesu srditog oca. Ali istinska ljubav ne poznaje prepreke. Objavljen 1929., kratki roman Ljubavnici nikada ne gube remek-djelo je jednoga od najznačajnijih francuskih spisatelja svih vremena Jeana Gionoa, kojega hrvatski čitatelji poznaju po sada već kultnom romanu Čovjek koji je sadio drveće, posveta ljubavi po čijem je predlošku Marcel Pagnol režirao film Angèle, a mi ga ovdje predstavljamo prvi put na hrvatskom jeziku u prijevodu Bojane Zeljko-Lipovšćak.
