O knjizi Suvremena društva suočena su s brojnim problemima vezanim za kršenje ljudskih prava, diskriminaciju, netoleranciju, zlostavljanje, nasilje, nepoštivanje života, spolno zlostavljanje, genetsko manipuliranje, uništavanje okoliša i dr. Ljudski je život postao objektom opasnih manipulacija. Usprkos tomu, nikada škola nije posvećivala manje pozornosti moralnoj izobrazbi. Ova knjiga potvrđuje nužnost takve izobrazbe. U njoj autor razmatra temelje moralnih vrijednosti, analizira goruće suvremene probleme te zagovara "aktivnu" pedagogiju primjerenu moralnoj izobrazbi u današnjoj školi koja je uvelike zanemarila upravo to važno područje odgojnog djelovanja. Namjena knjige Knjiga je namijenjena studentima nastavničkih studija, učiteljima početnicima i iskusnim nastavnicima osnovnih i srednjih škola. Zanimljiva je i širem krugu pedagoških djelatnika, pedagoga, sociologa i filozofa, kao i čitateljima koji se zanimaju za teme vezane za građanski odgoj. O autoru Dr. Louis Legrand je professor emeritus znanosti o odgoju na Sveučilištu Louis Pasteur u Strasbourgu. Bio je direktor Odjela za istraživanje u Nacionalnom institutu za pedagoška istraživanja u Parizu. Autor je, među ostalim radovima, knjige Les politiques de l'éducation prevedene na hrvatski i objavljene u izdanju Educe pod naslovom Obrazovne politike.
