Pročitavši moju prethodnu knjigu, Sava mirno teče, roman iz vremena 1990.-1993., neki su me pitali: „Imaš li snage nastaviti zapise do Oluje, 1995.? Time bi djelo bilo zaokruženo.“ Da, kazivalo bi ono o prekretničkom vremenu u našoj povijesti: od prvih slobodnih izbora i osamostaljivanja Hrvatske do pobjede u nametnutom ratu, ratu obrambenom i oslobodilačkom. Ja te zapise već imam, odgovorila sam. Objavljivani su u obiteljskom mjesečniku Kana još u vrijeme događanja. Da, u početku sam se čak dvoumila ne bih li sve te zapise, od prvih izbora do Oluje, ponudila u jednoj knjizi. Kao i u Savi, i u ovoj knjizi zapisi se mogu čitati napreskokce i svaki za sebe, jer su tako i pisani. Posloženi u cjelinu, ipak, postaju priča o jednoj obitelji, a kroz njihove oči i priča o Hrvatskoj toga doba. Herojskog doba. Moja priča nema drame kao priče onih s prve crte. Ali biti živi svjedok toga doba držim povlasticom. I osjećam da je moj dug svjedočiti o tome. Svjedočiti protiv zaborava
