Kako sastaviti priču od jednog naizgled sasvim običnog života, čak donekle i paradigmatičnog za razdoblje i kojemu je glavni junak živio? A živio je u doba još uvijek djelomice živo prisutno kao osobno iskustvo mnogih koji će za ovom knjigom posegnuti – od kraja dvadesetih do druge polovice devedesetih 20. stoljeća, upravo u doba kada nije mogao ostaviti danas tako često spominjani “digitalni otisak”. Život Radovana Maretića, glavnog junaka ovog kratkog romana opisan je, ali i protumačen, kroz poglede ljudi iz njegove okoline – obitelji, prijatelja, suradnika, ljubavnice… Svatko od njih dodaje jedan kamenčić u mozaik koji stvara lik, koji stvara osobu. Autor nam vješto sakriva sveznajućeg pripovjedača, elegantno prelazeći u pripovijedanje u prvom licu kroz usta svjedoka Maretićeva života, života koji kao da je na sudištu na kojemu smo mi, kao čitatelji, konačni sudci, a možda i oni koji će sami staviti posljednji komadić u mozaik. Taj komadić trebao je vjerojatno staviti Maretić sam, ali nije dospio. Vjerojatno je zato i ostao – neprobuđeni.
