U dremljivom banatskom selu Vaganu, u kome je događaj i kad dvojica pijanaca razmene po koji šamar, kao prasak bombe odjeknula je vest da je nestala njihova meštanka Marina R. Policija vodi traljavu potragu. Nema tela, nema dakle ni zločina. No, tako ne misli čovek koji je bio u tajnoj emotivnoj vezo sa njom. On sluti zločin. Počinje sopstvenu potragu. A kad ga ona dovde do najvećeg tajkuna u okrugu, i ovaj bez traga nestaje. Sad već i policija počinje temeljitij u istragu. Na svoj način vodi je i lokalna televizija. Na videlo izlazi da je tromi, učmali život u selu bio samo privid. Da se, pod okriljem noći, što u selu, što u njegovim kukuruznim poljima, zaplelo jedno mistično, teško razmrsivo klupko, čije niti dosežu i do ulica obližnjeg grada, pa i Beograda, u koje su upleteni tajni putevi krijumčara ljudi, nečim teškim zatrovani odnosi unutar porodice nestale žene, korumpirano sudstvo, zagađen politički život u Srbiji, čankolizni voajerski medji… Sve do poslednjih stranica knjige čitalac će biti u dilemi kakvi to zli vetrovi tutnje vaganskim kukuruznim poljima i gde su oduvali nestalu ženu, tajkuna, i još neke koje je zla kob vezala za njihovu sudbinu.
