About the Book

Drama Od jutra do ponoći drugi je veliki Kaiserov književni i kazališni uspjeh. Objavljena dvije godine nakon Građana Calaisa, 1916., drama je postavljena na scenu minhenskog teatra Kammerspiele u travnju 2017., samo nekoliko mjeseci nakon što su Građani Calaisa premijerno prikazani u Frankfurtu na Majni. Nekoliko godina kasnije, 1920., snimljen je i film prema Kaiserovu predlošku, s Ernstom Deutschom u glavnoj ulozi Blagajnika, u režiji Karlheinza Martina. Zašto je drama postala tako popularna na njemačkim pozornicama u 1920-im, a igra se i prevodi još i danas u cijelom svijetu? Najjednostavnije bi bilo reći kako je tom dramom Kaiser uspješno prenio duh vremena ondašnje carske Njemačke u kontekstu tragedije Prvoga svjetskog rata i općeg rasapa društvenih i moralnih vrijednosti. Novo povijesno vrijeme izazvalo je burnu umjetničku reakciju, promjenu paradigme u literarnom i scensko-praktičnom smislu, pa umjesto poniranja u psihološka stanja likova u okviru realističkog teatra, pojavilo se novo lice ekspresionističkog dramskog stvaranja i njegovog predstavljanja na pozornicama diljem Europe. Njemački autori postaju predvodnici nove dramske forme i novoga stila u prvim desetljećima dvadesetoga stoljeća…
