Vrtna kućica, s plavom fasadom i bijelim kapcima na prozorima, izgledala je poput malenoga parobroda izgubljenoga u moru trave. Roman Peti brod (Piata loď, 2010.) hvaljeni je prvijenac jedne od najvažnijih suvremenih slovačkih književnica Monike Kompaníkove (1979.), za koji je 2011. dobila najprestižnije slovačko književno priznanje, nagradu Anasoft litera. Riječ je o priči ispripovijedanoj iz perspektive dvanaestogodišnje djevojčice Jarke, koja živi s mladom i nezrelom samohranom majkom Lucijom te emocionalno hladnom bakom Irenom, u okruženju u kojem nema „nikakve duboke naklonosti, suzvučja ni razumijevanja... naznake intimnosti, bliskosti“. Emocionalno zanemarena i prepuštena samoj sebi usred društvenog vakuuma okruženog džunglom postkomunističkih betonskih zdanja u jednoj od četvrti grada Bratislave, Jarka provodi dane sanjareći o mjestu na kojem će se osjećati sigurno: o malenom vrtu s kućicom koje je izgradio njezin djed u predgrađu okruženom zelenilom, svome brodu u mirnoj luci… Inspirirana stvarnim događajem, Kompaníková je napisala iznimnu priču koju zbog društveno-kritičke komponente i mnoštva važnih pitanja koje otvara (ponajprije onih o odnosu djece i roditelja u suvremenom društvu), mnogi smatraju prijelomnim djelom suvremene slovačke književnosti…
