Ponatisnjeno besedilo Preklicati revolucijo v slovenski zgodovini? ni le del avtorjeve polemike s Spomenko Hribar, ki je pred dobrim desetletjem trdila, da je »nemoč levice distancirati se od revolucije [...] kriva za celokupno [...] dinamiko v Sloveniji«, temveč upor proti postsocialistični reinterpretaciji slovenske preteklosti nasploh. Je ugovor proti novi oceni polpretekle zgodovine, za katero je agitiral Borut Pahor, ali nasprotovanje javni obsodbi revolucije, za katero se je zavzemala Hribarjeva. Avtor na podlagi prelomnih dogodkov in političnih potez dokazuje, da za sodelovanje z okupatorjem ni »kriva revolucionarna napadalnost KPS [Komunistične partije Slovenije]« in »levičarsko nasilje partizanov spomladi 1942«, temveč »odločanje nekaterih starih sil za kolaboracijo«. Sicer pa je revolucijo na slovenskih tleh Pleterski razumel kot »del evropskega dogajanja med napadalno vojno držav fašistične osi proti Kraljevini Jugoslaviji« oz. jo je postavljal ob bok »demokratičnim (meščanskim) revolucijam 18. in 19. stoletja«. V širšem kontekstu pa besedilo Pleterskega mogoče razumeti tudi kot nasprotovanje historičnemu revizionizmu oziroma upor proti postsocialističnem funkcionalnem antikomunizmu po letu 1989.
