Priča o Dvorniku Bransonu, jedinom preživjelom iz kršćanske samoubilačke sekre pravovjernih, ispričana je u unazadnom nizu poglavlja, ali njezina radnja napreduje neočekivanim prizorima i događajima koji izričito govore o današnjem svijetu. Masovni mediji i njihova moć, vjerski fanatizam i osobni usud, otmice aviona, pa čak i praktični savjeti o tome kako se, primjerice, čiste krhotine razbijene Čaše, te pojmovnik još neizumljenih lijekova u tom Čudnovatom kolopletu motiva izazivaju istodobno i smijeh, ali i mučan osjećaj postojanja u kontroliranu svijetu koji ne daje sigurnost. Premda znamo svršetak, ne znamo kako će do njega doći, a u tome je posebna draž Palahniukova pripovijedanja - mračno ozbiljna knjiga koja se čita kao triler koji začas i neočekivano skače iz vrta punog posađenog umjetnog cvijeća u jeziv prostor porno otpada.
