U ovoj je knjizi znanstveni interes za prijedloge u čakavskome ekavskom dijalektu poniknuo, među ostalim, iz potrebe da se općelingvističke teorije povezane sa sintaksom i semantikom, kao i općelingvističke teorije koje su već primijenjene u dijelu dosadašnjih opisa značenja prijedloga u hrvatskome jeziku spoje s dijalektološkom teorijom kako bi se dalje razvila metodologija opisa značenja prijedloga koja pretpostavlja analizu inovativnoga korpusa prikupljenoga na način primjeren semantičkomu istraživanju te sintezu dosadašnjih istraženih razina, fonološke i morfološke, ponajprije u uspostavi inventara i distribucije prijedloga te dalje i semantičkoga modela kao uvoda u značenje u ekavskome dijalektu čakavskoga narječja i u dijalektologiji općenito.
