Roman Prikaz rastavljenog sklopa sastoji se od četiri nezavisne priče, četiri lika koji pripadaju različitim segmentima južnoafričkog društva, a zajedno predstavljaju panoramu ili „prikaz rastavljenog sklopa“ Johannesburga. U fokusu Vladislavićeva romana ustvari je grad i istraživanje suptilnih odnosa unutar njega. Životi likova na sekundu će se dotaknuti, a da oni toga neće biti ni svjesni, i tako skrojiti priču o suptilnom premrežavanju povijesti, sadašnjosti i budućnosti ne samo Johannesburga nego i cijele Južnoafričke Republike. U svom već poznatom stilu, Vladislavić suptilno i vješto oslikava probleme klase, rase, društvenog položaja i institucionalne moći (i nemoći) unutar južnoafričkog društva prikazujući živote četvorice muškaraca s potpuno različitim pozadinama i životnim interesima, od popisivača stanovništva u predgrađima Johannesburga do umjetnika koji se bavi instalacijama sastavljenim od prepolovljenih drvenih skulptura životinja. U svakoj od četiri priče postavlja se pitanje izmještenog identiteta i nepripadanja, autor stilom vješto dočarava otuđenje gotovo kafkijanskih razmjera, a čitatelja stavlja u poziciju pritajenog promatrača svakodnevice i intime njegovih likova.
