Streljanja civila oktobra 1941. u Kraljevu i Kragujevcu, najstravičniji događaji u istoriji ova dva grada, imali su gotovo identične povode, naredbodavce, vinovnike i posledice – nevine žrtve oba pola i različitih uzrasta. U senci ovih zločina protiv čovečnosti, koji su zahtevali višegodišnja istraživanja brojnih istoričara da bi se utvrdio konačan broj stradalih, ostala su stradanja seoskog stanovništva u okolini Kraljeva. Racije nemačke vojske (jedinica 749. i 737. pešadijskog puka 717. posadne divizije iz Kraljeva) u okolnim selima započete u septembru 1941. godine imale su karakter selektivnih kaznenih mera, usmerenih protiv konkretnih pojedinaca. Međutim, širenjem ustanka, intenziviranjem akcija i proširenjem prostora zahvaćenosti, nemačke trupe će preći na mere odmazde prema celokupnom stanovništvu određenog mesta. Naročito surovo su reagovali u slučajevima ugrožavanja saobraćajnica. Posledice ovih kaznenih ekspedicija bile su: stradanje civilnog stanovništva, opljačkana i popaljena domaćinstva, uništena letina i desetkovan stočni fond. Prema do sada utvrđenim podacima, evidentirane su 264 civilne žrtave racija nemačke vojske u selima žičkog sreza, koje su stradale od 11. avgusta do 13. decembra 1941.
