Kada me je prije nekoliko tjedana Frank Popper, kao izraz prijateljstva, zamolio da napišem nekoliko riječi kojima bih predstavila njegovu knjigu Razmišljanja o progonstvu, umjetnosti i Europi, odmah sam s oduševljenjem prihvatila prijedlog. No, nekoliko sam se sati kasnije, prisjetila Talleyrandova upozorenja "Čuvajte se prve pobude, ona je dobra" (drugim riječima iz ustiju tog cinika "odustanite"). Nakon kratkog premišljanja javila sam Popperu da odustajem, potaknuta činjenicom da su se naši intelektualni interesi potpuno razišli, iako se nad našim prijateljstvom nije nadvio ni oblačak još od "krasnog doba GRIO-a" (le groupe de recherches esthetiques du CNRS, grupe oko koje smo bili okupljeni od šezdeset pete godine naovamo - je li moguće?, kroz više od trideset godina). Kako sam već deset godina u mirovini, mogla sam se okrenuti svojim dragim strastima - poeziji, slikarstvu kvatročenta...
